How to Decorating Your Home with Quilts
There is nothing more comforting than snuggling up under a soft quilt with a good book on a cool night or just sleeping under a beautiful quilt on your bed every night. If you love quilts, there is no reason why you should store them away and only bring them out when it is cold outside, why not use them to decorate the rooms of your home? Why hide those beautiful antique quilts in a chest somewhere, only enjoying them for a few months every year, when you could use them in your home decorating, and see them every day?
If you are looking for a way to jazz up your decorating, without spending a lot of extra money, then quilts may just be the answer you have been looking for. Many of us have large living rooms, and even with our furniture and few well-placed photos, the walls still seem empty and bare, and the room isn’t very inviting. Cozy it up a little by hanging one of your favourite quilts on one of those empty walls, or you could even use that quilt as the centrepiece for the room, and decorate the rest of the room around the quilt. This type of home decorating is much easier on your budget than many other options, plus is a great way to add warmth to a room as well.
Your family room should be one of the most inviting, well-used rooms in your home. It should be a room that is decorated with comfort and lots of use in mind. In your home decorating, you should spend a lot of time and energy in this room. Here you can use quilts in many ways to add warmth and comfort. If you have a table in the room that you use for puzzles and games, you could use one of your favourite quilts here as a tablecloth. You could also drape some quilts throughout the room, on the back of sofas and chairs, or maybe even place a couple near the TV, so you can snuggle up during your favourite shows or movies. Your home decorating goal should be to add comfort, while at the same time adding beauty to your home, and this is a great way to do just that in the family room.
When decorating the dining room in your home, you may not realise that you could even carry your quilted theme into this room as well. If you are fairly good at sewing, you could make your own quilted slipcovers for your dining room chairs, and change them out as you decorate the room for different holidays and seasons, such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc. If you wanted to, you could go so far as to make your own matching quilted tablecloth or placemats as well. Quilted tablecloths are much thicker than traditional tablecloths, and provide your table with added protection from the many spills that are likely to occur during meals, particularly if you have small children in the family. So, in this instance, quilts are a vital piece of your home décor, but also protect your furniture as well, so they serve double duty in this room of your home.
Decorating your bedroom with quilts is pretty obvious; just use your favourite quilt as a comforter for your bed. Not only will you have a pretty bedroom, you will also sleep warm and cosy snuggled under your favourite quilt as well. Bed toppers are also very popular today, so you could even put a smaller quilt on top of the large one, and change it around often to add interest to the décor of your room. You could change it with the holidays, or just to suit your mood, adding spice to an old room, without having to spend a lot of money or time redecorating the entire space.
You can even use quilts when decorating your baby nursery, to add that extra special feel to the room. Make your own, or purchase quilted crib sets, including comforters, bumpers, and blankets, a great way to decorate the baby’s room, just remember to remove the comforter before placing baby in bed to reduce the risk of SIDS. You could also decorate your baby’s room with quilted stuffed animals, wall hangings, and quilted curtains, all a great way to give the room that soft, warm feeling. As your baby gets older, you could even get cloth books and toys for him or her to play with as well, which would also keep the overall quilted theme of the room. Quilts aren’t hard to care for, just wash them as you would your normal bedclothes, and so regardless of what you have heard otherwise, they are a great way to decorate your baby’s nursery.
Many people have carried the quilted home decorating theme into every room, including the bathroom, with a quilted shower curtain. As long as you have a rod that can support the weight and a good plastic liner, there is no reason why you can’t pull this off if you choose to do so. If you have windows, you could also do quilted curtains in here, great for your home décor theme, as well as privacy.
As you can see, it is quite possible to decorate your entire home with quilts. You will get lots of comments on your creative flair for home decorating and will feel warm and cosy in every room of your home. And, if you decide to change your décor, you simply choose a different quilt, and you have a whole new look!
